St. Marie of the Incarnation Hosts Literacy Nights
On October 16 and October 23, the staff of St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford welcomed Kindergarten and grade one and two families to the school for Fall Family Literacy Night. The evening had students and parents actively participating in stations set up throughout the school, with a variety of topics centered around early literacy learning.
On October 16th, students in grades one and two traveled through the literacy stations with their parents. Together they learned about the importance of reading at home, new ways to work with words, sharing the love of reading as a family, and explored the community/school board resources that were available to support literacy.
On the evening of October 23rd, the JK/SK students enjoyed music and activities in the gym as their parents travelled through various stations with topics including fine-motor skill development and learning to write in kindergarten, understanding early reading behaviours and the importance of reading aloud to children.
A special thank-you goes out to our guests from the Bradford Public Library, Wintergreen Educational resources, Bradford Immigration and Community Services (BICS), and to Russ Clayton from SJB for providing the entertainment and also to Gillian Montgomery and Christine Ignas, the ELL consultants from the Board Office.
The events were a huge success! The staff at St. Marie of the Incarnation worked together to plan and present a fun, interactive learning experience for both the children and their parents. It was a celebration of the multicultural and diverse population of the school, as well as an opportunity for staff to share their passion for early literacy learning with the families of our school community.
